We have talked with the english band SYNAPTIK, the band launched the remix of debut "Mechanisms of consequence" through italian label Heart Of Steel Records a few months ago, and now we are waiting for the new album titled "Justify & Reason"...Read the interview below
Hi guys, tell us when you formed your
group?
Since forming in 2012 from the ashes of
such bands as Fifth Season, Inner Sanctum (UK), and Twisted Autumn Darkness,
the primary concern of Norwich, England's SYNAPTIK has been musical intensity.
What is the genre of your sound?
Compartmentalising SYNAPTIK's approach
& sound is as futile as attempting to cage a wild animal, but―nevertheless―traits of progressive metal seem ubiquitous, and a dark aura tends
to cloak the band’s output. Because we
mix all our influences and never limit what we can do the Progressive tag seems
the most apt.
What is the source of inspiration for
the lyrics? Who writes them?
Vocalist John Knight writes the lyrics for
the albums, subject matterLyrically, Justify & Reason ventures into the
dark, labyrinthine corridors of the human psyche to examine the relationship
between inner emotions and society at large―universal themes that transcend cultural and national boundaries
What are the reasons by which you decide
to give your band the name "Synaptik"?
Our lyrics prompt the listener to think, to
investigate, to question their government, themselves and their choices, its
cerebral music also with dynamics and emotion, we want to trigger a spark in
the listener, like synapses do in the brain, so we decided on Synaptic which
became SynaptiK.
Your album will be promoted in
international media, what are your expectations?
Our hope is that new listeners will
discover us, give us a chance and immerse themselves in the music & hear
the many influences that are put together to create our sound, so we hope it
will appeal to listeners of all the genres of metal. This is our heaviest and
most brutal album but at the same time our most melodic and progressive with
clean sections and mellow moments also. Its a journey.
To promote the record are you planning a
live tour?
A UK tour is being planned , but we are
eager to hear from promoters for gigs in Europe etc, festivals so please get in
contact so we can bring our sound.
Have you played in some important festivals?
We have performed at Download Festival
Donnington and also Bloodstock Festival UK, Mammothfest & TitanFest, we are
eager to play Europe at any of the many amazing festivals.
I would like to have your own point of
view about the poor sales of the CD's, it's caused by the internet?
technological development?
or it's changed the mentality of the fans?
The internet has been both incredible and
disastrous for bands, incredible that we can now send our music across the
world instantly and be heard anywhere so easily and quickly, but tragic because now music can be
pirated/torrented, for the bigger bands this isn’t a massive problem, they can
find ways of making money through tours and merchandise, the smaller bands are
hit very hard by this and the metal fans need to remember this and help the
smaller bands survive by buying their music not stealing it. Smaller bands need
it to pay for their next recording, musicians out there know how tough it is
and how much money goes into creating the songs, rehearsing, equipments,
strings, sticks etc, studio. If do feel have to download and then enjoy the
music, please then pay the band so they can continue to write great music for
you all.
On a positive Vinyl is making a huge
comeback and outsold digital sales in UK last year. Talking of which Synaptik
new album will be released on Vinyl in a numbered limited run. So grab them
whilst you can. ;)
Can you tell us a little about creation
and creator of all your album’s artwork?
I (John Knight) create all the artwork for
Synaptik, shirts, album covers and logo etc. The new album “Justify &
Reason” artwork was inspired by the song “The Incredible Machine” which is
about the mysterious machine that is the human brain, so complex, the cogs
signify thought process and calculations, one hundred billion nerve cells
co-ordinating our physical actions.
Tell us a few funny anecdotes, in the
past?
Our drummer was once thrown out of a Folk
Festival for being drunk and repeatidly shouting Megadeth at the bands. Ha Ha

He makes his own Vodka…..he’s crazy but we
love him.
